CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Following the North Carolina football team's 35-11 road win at Florida State this weekend, defensive lineman Beau Atkinson and running back Omarion Hampton received ACC Player of the Week honors, announced by the league on Monday.
Atkinson had a career day in Tallahassee to earn ACC Defensive Lienman of the Week accolades, matching a career high 5 tackles, and setting new bests of 4.5 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks. His 3.5 sacks matched the second most in a single game by a Tar Heel and the most since 2013.
Â
It marks the first-career ACC weekly honor for Atkinson and the third time this season that a Tar Heel defensive lineman has won the award, following Jahvaree Ritzie on Sept. 3 and Kaimon Rucker on Oct. 23.Â
Â
Hampton was equally as impressive on the offensive end Saturday to bring home ACC Running Back of the Week honors. The junior scored five touchdowns in the victory, the second most ever by a Tar Heel and the most in a game since 1981. He totaled a career-high 265 all-purpose yards with 172 on the ground and 93 through the air. He surpassed 3,000 rushing yards in his career and now has 34 career rushing scores, which ties Natrone Means for fourth most in UNC history.
Â
It marks the second time this season Hampton has been named ACC Running Back of the Week, also earning the honors on Sept. 16. He has now received the award six times in his career, and it's his seventh weekly honor from the ACC, having received Rookie of the Week honors once in 2022.
Atkinson, Hampton and the Tar Heels are off this weekend, before returning to action Nov. 16. Carolina hosts Wake Forest Nov.16 at 8 p.m. with coverage on ACC Network.
