Diamond Heels Ranked No. 16 In NCBWA Preseason Poll
February 1, 2024 | Baseball
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – With the start of the 2024 season just over two weeks away, the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) revealed its preseason top 30 poll Thursday and ranked North Carolina No. 16.
Â
In addition to today's poll, the Diamond Heels have been ranked No. 14 by Perfect Game, No. 15 by D1 Baseball and No. 17 by Baseball America. The USA Today Coaches poll has not yet been released.
Â
UNC is one of six ACC teams ranked by the NCBWA, along with No. 1 Wake Forest, No. 11 Virginia, No. 12 Clemson, No. 14 Duke, and No. 18 NC State.
The Diamond Heels will play 17 games against teams ranked in Baseball America's preseason poll, with a three-game ACC series against Wake Forest, Virginia, NC State, and Duke, along with a three-game set with No. 11 East Carolina and single games versus No. 15 South Carolina and No. 19 Coastal Carolina.
UNC returns 19 lettermen from last year's 36-24 squad that earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament – the program's sixth consecutive and 35th overall appearance – and welcomes a top 15 nationally-ranked recruiting class.
The Diamond Heels will open the 2024 season at home against Wagner on Feb. 16. Season tickets are on sale at GoHeels.com.
