Davis Named To Naismith Coach Of The Year Watch List
February 23, 2024 | Men's Basketball
North Carolina's third-year head coach Hubert Davis is one of 15 individuals named to the Atlanta Tipoff Club/Naismith Awards late-season watch list for National Coach-of-the-Year honors.
Davis has led the Tar Heels to a 20-6 overall record and share of first place in the Atlantic Coast Conference with a 12-3 record in league play.
Carolina is No. 10 in the Associated Press poll and has been ranked in the top 10 in 11 of the past 12 weeks.
The Tar Heels head to Charlottesville, Va., to play Virginia on Saturday at 4 p.m.
Carolina is 6-2 this season on the road, all in league play. The Tar Heels are one of eight teams in the ACC, Big East, Big Ten, Big 12, Pac 12 and SEC with six or more road wins.
When Carolina beat Virginia Tech last Saturday Davis joined Bill Guthridge as the only coaches in Tar Heel history to win 20 or more games in each of their first three seasons.
Among teams with 20 or more wins this season, Carolina has the third-toughest schedule behind only Purdue and Kansas.
Carolina leads the ACC in scoring, rebounding, three-point percentage defense and free throws made and is second in the league in field goal percentage defense and scoring margin.
