Hubert Davis
On a recent meeting with Armando Bacot:
"We had a really nice time talking together about him and what is needed for him personally and for our team to be the best that we can be. I think for one, he needed to be a little more aggressive in working to get him the ball and I tweaked a few things in our offense to be able to get him the ball in easier spots."
On Armando Bacot dominating:
"When he's dominant down low in the post like that, it just opens everything up for us. It gives us space to drive and penetrate and get to the basket. It gets us open shots on the perimeter. It gets us closer to the penalty. So there are a number of benefits for us when Armando is aggressive and plays in the way he did tonight."
On Harrison Ingram:
"With that size and versatility, to be able to play multiple positions, he helps us defensively and with rebounds. It helps us on the offense and being able to post them up, shoot from three, and he can bring the ball up in transition.
On the group's motivation:
"There's a hunger and a thirst with this group individually and as a team to be the best they can be. It comes from many different directions. There's a hunger for the guys who have been here before to continue growing. Then you have guys like Cormac [Ryan], Pax [Paxson Wojcik], and Harrison who had never run out of that tunnel before like that with that type of crowd. So there's a hunger and a thirst to be good because this is the first time for them.
RJ Davis
On the other guys stepping up against Duke:
"I think Duke did a really good job of trying to get me out of my rhythm and deny me when I didn't have the ball. I came off the pick and roll kind of double teamed so we couldn't get the ball in my hands, but it was good. I know the kind of team that we have. Big guys making big time plays and stepping up. Harrison, Cormac, and Armando all had huge games… It just shows you how much of a team we are and it's never about one guy."
On Harrison's toughness and being the missing piece:
"His toughness goes a long way… Once he got into the flow of things, you know his personality and the way he plays rubbed off on us. Credit to him because he's a phenomenal player."
"I think that's one of the pieces we were missing, just that type of player that king of does it all… Gives his 100% each game and practice"
On Armando's last home game against Duke:
"Mando is Mando. For it to be his last home game against Duke, I mean, that's one hell of a game right there. The way he was aggressive, he established his presence and made sure it was felt. We went to him early and we never looked back since. I'm proud of him and the way he played tonight."
Armando Bacot
On Coach Davis Adjustments:
"Coach Davis and I met after the Georgia Tech game. He was asking me about different ways to get me involved, be more of a factor, and get me the ball where I like it. In practice, he drew up a lot of different plays and gave me a lot of different looks. It was tough for them to double-team because they really didn't know what I was doing. When I am in a situation where I am not getting double-teamed, I like me."
On his feeling before the game:
"I knew coming into today that I was going to have a big game. I told my mom I was going to get 20 and 10. We had an amazing game plan. All season, I have just been waiting for my turn. Everybody has been playing great. That's what's so great about this team."
Harrison Ingram
On playing his first game against Duke:
"It is exactly what I dreamt of. Me and my brother were talking about it last night. We talked about playing the UNC-Duke game. The biggest stage against a really good team with really good players and a great coach. I can't put it into words. I remember watching when I was a kid. I remember visiting here and going to the UNC-Duke game and all of my friends were jealous because I got to go. Now that I'm playing in it, absolutely I was living the dream."
On Coach Davis' message to him post game:
"Coach said he was proud of me. It's a big time game. It's hard to play in this game. There is a lot of pressure. This game means the most to both sides. Getting the win, playing well in front of the fans and my family, I couldn't ask for anything more."
Seth Trimble
On Harrison Ingram's performance:
"Harrison (Ingram) is elite. He is one of the best players in college basketball. Just his impact on the game. It doesn't matter if he is scoring. You take away his scoring today and he still has a huge impact on the game. He was able to add the scoring today and it was huge for us. I feel like he didn't miss. He was our go to guy this game and I'm glad we had him out there."
On the team's intensity tonight:
"The intensity was huge. It just comes from our identity. It's who we are. We are a hard playing team. We are a team that likes to get in the trenches. We knew that in order to win this game, against a high scoring team, we just had to be in the trenches all night. So being able to do that was huge."
Cormac Ryan
On his first experienced UNC vs. Duke game:
"It's incredible, great atmosphere, and just an amazing win for us."
On Harrison Ingram's hustle for him and Duke's relentless effort:
"It was good to see the three go down. Harrison made an incredible effort play to get on the floor, keeping the possession alive. They didn't quit, they didn't back down. We had to finish the game out and we've been in that position before and we executed and got the win."
On similar games to the UNC vs. Duke game in his career
"This was really fun. This is the best rivalry in sports, so to be a part of it and to win the game for this great university. That's all I can ask for."
Elliot Cadaeu
On how the team seemed to be having fun while on the court:
"The whole team was having fun and laughing out there. Coach emphasized having fun. He told us before we went out there, the most important thing for us today was to just have fun. So that's what we tried to do."
On Harrison Ingram's performance:
" I play Harrison in one-on-one basically everyday so the stuff he's doing out there he's doing to me everyday. It's not surprising."
On their performance coming off the loss:
"We were coming off a loss so everybody was more intense and everybody wanted to win more because we took a terrible loss."
Duke Head Coach John Scheyer
Opening Statement:
"Well first you have to congratulate North Carolina. They played a great game. You know the game that Ingram and Bacot had, they have 46 points and 23 rebounds between them. They were great. I thought their defense bothered us in the first half. But, I think the main story for me was the loose balls. When you look throughout the game, they were hungrier to get them and it turned into I bet close to fifteen, twenty points. And you have to give them credit for that. You know they have a really good team. They play really well together. Their defense is terrific. And still we scored 84 points. We can score. Our thing was getting stops tonight which we could just not do. Transition, they push it hard. We probably had some miscommunication there and I just wasn't happy with the way we competed. That's disappointing for me. You can play really well and compete your butt off and still lose to them because they are a really good team. But, we didn't compete at the level we needed to have a chance to beat this team tonight. And that's what I am disappointed about. But hats off to them, they were terrific, they are really good and I think they are just as good as anybody. We have to learn from this quickly, make no excuses, get back to work, and know there is a second half of ACC play to go where this team can be really good. But tonight was not good enough for me or our program or our team."
