Women's Golf Leads By 8 In Orlando

Freshman Reagan Southerland led the Tar Heels with a 3-under-par 69 and Kayla Smith and Ing Iadpluem shot a pair of 70s as the Carolina women's golf team surged to an eight-shot lead after 36 holes at the UCF Challenge Sunday in Orlando, Fla.

Vilde Nystrøm shot 71 and Megan Streicher followed her school-record 64 in the first round with an even-par 72 today and is one shot off the lead in the individual standings.

Carolina is 17-under 559 through 36 holes. Miami is second at 9 under, the College of Charleston is 5 under, Kansas is -4, and Northwestern and UCF are tied for fifth at 2 under.

Southerland made five birdies en route to tying her season-best round of 69. Iadpluem also made five birdies, Smith played the final 14 holes 3 under today and Streicher birdied the 16th, 17th and 18th holes to shoot even.

Streicher (64-72) is 8-under 136, one shot behind Texas Tech's Lauren Zaletsky, who shot 71 today after her opening 64.

The third and final round begins Monday morning at 8:30 a.m.

Carolina is looking to win its second tournament in as many starts. The Tar Heel won the St Andrews Links Collegiate in Scotland last October.
