Football’s Holliday Earns Wells Fargo Postgraduate Scholarship
March 1, 2024 | Football, Academics
CHAPEL HILL – University of North Carolina defensive back Christopher Holliday has received the 2024 Wells Fargo Postgraduate Scholarship, a $10,000 grant presented annually to a UNC senior student-athlete who plans to attend graduate school.
A Morehead-Cain Scholar, Holliday is expected to graduate this spring with a double major in economics and exercise and sports science. He's an All-ACC Academic honoree, an ACC Honor Roll member, a Tar Heel Scholar-Athlete, and is a member of the Dean's List and the UNC 4.0 Club. In addition to his work on the field and in the classroom, Christopher is extremely active in the community, having earned the ACC Top Six in Service award last year. He's active with Dream on 3, hospital visits, as a youth group leader, with the ACC Unity Tour and is UNC's Student-Athlete Advisory Council Chair.
"We're so proud of Christopher," said UNC head coach Mack Brown. "He is such a bright young man, who did everything he could, both on the field and off, to maximize his college experience. Christopher has always been a tremendous student, but he was also heavily involved in the community and with our leadership council. I can't think of a better person to receive this postgraduate scholarship, and I know he'll put it to great use in the future."
Holliday was a stalwart on UNC's special teams units having played in all 12 games last season and all 13 in 2023. He's been a member of a Tar Heel program that has played in four bowl games, including its first ever Orange Bowl appearance, and won the ACC Coastal Championship during his career.
"When I chose UNC, it was really for three different reasons, the combination of athletics, academics and the people that are here. The ability to be able to continue my academic journey even after I finish my athletic career is something that I'm very blessed and fortunate to do. I really hope to get a master's in business administration in the coming years with this scholarship."
Wells Fargo has been an Official Sponsor of Carolina Athletics for 20 years. In addition to the annual postgraduate scholarship, the company also partners with the Richard A. Baddour Carolina Leadership Academy to teach all UNC student-athletes financial literacy and an understanding of basic money management concepts. The training is designed to help them make wise financial choices now and after they graduate.
"Our support for Christopher and the University of North Carolina is part of Wells Fargo's broader commitment as the Bank of Doing," said Chad Gregory, Regional Branch Network Executive for Wells Fargo. "From making financial education more accessible and housing more attainable, to empowering diverse small businesses and helping make communities more sustainable, doing makes all of us stronger."
