Megan Streicher led North Carolina with a 5-under 67 in the opening round of the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational Sunday at the Ocean Course at Hōkūala in Lihu'e, Kaua'i.
Streicher was one of four Tar Heels to shoot par or better UNC finished day one of the 54-hole tournament in third place. Carolina shot 6-under 282, two shots behind the leader Arizona State and one back of Sacramento State. Washington (-3) and Fresno State (-2) are fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 15-team field.
Streicher is tied for second. Kayla Smith is 10th after her 2-under 70, Reagan Southerland shot 71 and Crista Izuzquiza, playing as an individual entry, shot 70.
The 67 was Streicher's fourth round in the 60s this season.
Round two is Monday in Hawai'i.
