Dellarose, King Receive Call-Up For U20 Youth National Team
March 30, 2024 | Women's Soccer
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Two players on the 20-person U.S. Under-20 Women's Youth National Team roster are Tar Heels, as Tessa Dellarose and Savy King have been called up for an upcoming trip to Germany from April 1-7.
Both Dellarose and King were part of the U.S. squad that traveled to Colombia for a training camp and matches back in February.
The USA will face its counterparts of Germany on Friday, April 5, at Sportclub Arena Verl before taking on Canada on April 7 at Stadion Am Furlbach. Both matches will take place in Verl, Germany.
The camp marks the next steps toward the 2024 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup, to be held in Colombia in September, for which the USA qualified last June at the Concacaf Women's U-20 Championship in the Dominican Republic.
A defender, Dellarose was selected to the U-20 National Team that helped the Americans qualify for the 2024 U-20 World Cup with its runner-up finish at the Concacaf Championships in 2023. She played in all five games of the tournament and scored a goal against Jamaica.
Dellarose was one of only nine Tar Heels to appear in all 23 matches during her sophomore season in 2023 and earned three starts. She averaged 33.8 minutes per game and finished the season with one goal and two assists, with her first career goal coming in her first start of the season.
A fast and physical defender, King was one of the country's top players at the U-17 WYNT level before moving up to the U-20s in 2023. She started all five games at the Concacaf Women's U-20 Championship last June, helping the U.S. to a runner-up finish while qualifying for the 2024 U-20 World Cup.
King began her freshman season at UNC soon after, starting all 23 matches and leading the team with 2,030 minutes at center back. She was named to the All-ACC Second Team, ACC All-Freshman Team and United Soccer Coaches All-Atlantic Second Team in addition to twice being tabbed the ACC Defensive Player of the Week.
Currently in her rookie season, King was selected with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2024 NWSL Draft to Bay FC. She has started both of the club's matches so far.
