Softball Falls To Virginia, 3-0

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The Carolina softball team (17-4) was shutout in its ACC opener to Virginia (15-4) on Friday evening, 3-0. The Tar Heels tallied just three hits in the loss, a season-low, with graduate Abby Settlemyre recording two of the hits.
Freshman Nikki Harris (4-2) took the loss in the circle, allowing nine hits and three earned runs with six strikeouts. Redshirt junior Britton Rogers got the last two outs in the top of the seventh, striking out the second batter she faced.
The Tar Heels were able to draw three walks, one from Sanaa Thompson, Isabela Emerling and Autumn Owen. Thompson's hit streak came to an end at 18 games after going 0-2 at the plate.
For just the third time this season, Carolina didn't not record a stolen base.
The Tar Heels will look to even the series with the Cavaliers on Saturday at 1 p.m.
