Sophomores Spark 16-9 Win For Women’s Lacrosse At Pitt

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The sophomore trio of Caroline Godine, Darcy Felter and Kiley Mottice combined for 11 goals to help lead No. 16 North Carolina women's lacrosse to a 16-9 victory over Pitt on a windy Saturday afternoon in Pittsburgh, Pa.
Following the win at Highmark Stadium, the Tar Heels improve to 9-5 (5-3 ACC) on the year while the Panthers drop to 5-11 (0-8 ACC).

How It Happened
- It was a back-and-forth opening quarter between the two teams with Pitt's defense posing challenges for Carolina early on.
- Two points apiece from Felter and Caitlyn Wurzburger gave the Tar Heels a narrow 3-2 lead after 15 minutes of play.
- UNC, which out-scored Pitt 5-1, was able to find and create ample opportunities in the second frame while its defense kept the Panthers to just three shots.
- Two quick goals from Mottice and Felter at the start sparked the offense before Felter went on to score two more to end the first half with four of Carolina's eight goals.
- UNC was up, 8-3, at the break after out-shooting the home team 20-9, including 17-5 on goal.
- The visitors picked up right where they left off entering the second half, with Mottice and Godine scoring twice at the beginning before Mottice soon made it a hat trick.
- UNC held an 11-5 edge heading into the last quarter after again limiting Pitt to only three shots.
- Felter, Godine and Mottice all added another in the fourth quarter and Reilly Casey got a hat trick of her own with 1:19 remaining on the clock.
- The Panthers tacked on four goals, but the Tar Heels had built a sizable lead to end with a 16-9 advantage.
- Felter finished with five goals and seven assists to lead all players, setting new career highs in both.
- Mottice recorded six points to surpass her previous career high of five.
- Carolina out-shot Pitt 40-19 and 31-12 on goal.
- Emily Nalls had a game-high seven of UNC's 16 draw controls. Pitt had 13.
- The Tar Heels had a season-high 19 caused turnovers, led by Livi Lawton with a career-high six. Nalls matched her career-high four.
- Lawton also tied her career-high five ground balls with Nalls and Felter both notching four. UNC saw a season's best 27 to Pitt's 19.

- Carolina moves to 4-0 in the all-time series with Pitt.
- Ashley Humphrey's second assist of the day marked the 250th point of her career. She finished with three on the day, bringing her season total up to 36 which now ranks eighth on UNC's all-time single-season assists leaderboard
- Humphrey has recorded at least one point in 48 of her 51 career appearances and has dished out at least one assist in 46 of those 51 games
- Wurzburger has recorded at least one point in 71 of her 77 career appearances. She has earned at least one point in every game since April 21, 2022 (41 straight games)
- Wurzburger has also scored at least one goal in 64 of her 77 career appearances
- After today's four-point effort, Wurzburger is two points away from being ranked fifth on UNC's all-time career points list
