Tar Heels Shine On Opening Day Of ACC Championships, Wolfe Wins 10,000m

Atlanta, Ga.—North Carolina placed three medalists on the first day of the ACC Track and Field Championships on Thursday, kicking off the three-day meet with strong performances in several events by both men's and women's competitors.
Parker Wolfe (gold in the 10,000m), Alex Phillip (bronze in the 10,000m) Paul Signorelli (bronze in the men's pole vault) all earned top-three finishes at Georgia Tech's George C. Griffin Track.
The ACC Championships will resume on Friday morning for the first two Day two sessions, then conclude on Saturday in Atlanta.
Event-by-Event Tar Heel Highlights:

Craig Saddler II and Blaise Atkinson both qualified for the 400m hurdles finals on Saturday. Saddler won heat one, while Atkinson finished second in his but advanced on time, holding the fourth-best overall with a personal best of 51.21.

Freshman Spencer Young captured second-team All-Conference honors at her first ACC meet in women's javelin, finishing fifth with a throw of 145-9 (44.44m).

After the first day of the decathlon, three Tar Heels stood in the top nine of the standings at the halfway point. Sam Corley is in fourth place, Max Stakun-Pickering in seventh, and Isaac Young is eighth entering Friday's action.

Paul Signorelli and Ben Finger both earned All-Conference honors and picked up key points for the Tar Heels, finishing third and fourth, respectively. Signorelli took bronze and first-team All-Conference honors, while Finger took home second-team All-Conference honors.

Ethan Strand qualified for the 1500m final and recorded the best time overall in the preliminaries.

Three Tar Heel men had strong runs in the 10,000m: Parker Wolfe, who had never run the 10,000m event, won, while Alex Phillips medaled, finishing third, and Colton Sands fought for points, finishing eighth.
