Grant Invited To USA Basketball U17 Trials

Incoming UNC women's basketball freshman Lanie Grant is one of 44 athletes invited to trials for the U17 National Team, USA Basketball announced Tuesday. Trials are set to begin May 23 in Colorado Springs, with a 12-member team to be announced at the end.

The 2024 FIBA U17 Women's World Cup is scheduled for July 13-21 in Irapuato and Leon, Mexico. The team will reconvene in Colorado Springs for training camp in early July before traveling to Mexico.

Athletes attending trials were selected by the USA Basketball Women's Developmental National Team Committee.

Grant, a guard from Midlothian, Va., reclassified to enroll at UNC this summer and is the only member of the Class of 2024 among invitees. Thirteen athletes represent the graduating Class of 2025, 16 the Class of 2026, 13 the Class of 2027 and one from the Class of 2028. Athletes eligible for this team must be U.S. citizens, born on or after January 1, 2007.

Grant is among 35 invitees with USA Basketball experience at previous trials, training camps and competition. All 12 members of the 2023 USA Women's U16 National Team – including Grant – are expected at trials.
