2024-25 WBB Roster Revealed
May 20, 2024 | Women's Basketball
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The 2024-25 UNC women's basketball roster will include familiar faces and new ones, with nine returners, three freshmen and two transfer student-athletes.
All of the returners will stick with their same numbers, although sophomore Reniya Kelly will change up her jersey to "Kelly" instead of the "R. Kelly" she played in last season.
Notes on the newcomers:
• It's just the second time in program history that UNC will have a run of 0-1-2-3-4-5 on the roster, with Lanie Grant, Alyssa Ustby, Grace Townsend, Jordan Zubich, Laila Hull and Maria Gakdeng in consecutive numbers. The only other time was in 2018-19.
• Freshman Lanie Grant will be just the fourth player in program history to wear single zero. Jamie Cherry became the first as a freshman in 2014-15 but switched to No. 10 after that. Shayla Bennett (2019-20) wore 0 after that, followed by Alexandra Zelaya (2021-24).
• Graduate student Grace Townsend, who played in No. 1 for four years at Richmond, will wear No. 2.
• Prolific three-point shooter Jordan Zubich will wear No. 3, after playing her high school career in No. 4.
• Junior transfer Trayanna Crisp, who played in No. 4 at Arizona State, will wear No. 14, putting that number back the Tar Heel roster after a year-long break. It was last worn by Kayla McPherson, now in No. 11, in 2022-23.
• Freshman Blanca Thomas will stick with her No. 34 from high school. She'll be the first Tar Heel to wear that number since Naomi Van Nes in 2019-20.
