Softball's Season Ends In ACC Championship First Round

DURHAM, N.C. – The North Carolina softball team's season came to an end on Wednesday afternoon in the first round of the ACC Championship, falling to Notre Dame, 7-4, at Duke Softball Stadium. With the loss, the Tar Heels finish the 2024 season 30-20 (10-15 ACC).
The Tar Heels took an early 3-0 lead over the Irish, but Notre Dame was able to chip away at the Carolina lead.
Going into the sixth inning, the Irish trailed 4-2, but took the lead with a five-inning frame, scoring five runs on five hits and a fielding error to go ahead, 7-4.
The Tar Heels were then held scoreless in the sixth and seventh innings.
Kenna Raye Dark (8-7) took the loss in the circle, allowing six runs, four earned, 11 hits with a strikeout in 5.2 innings.
Talia Hannappel and Nikki Harris pitched the remaining 1.1 innings, with Harris recording three strikeouts.
Despite the loss, the Tar Heels posted a 30-20 record on the season, their first winning season since 2019, led by first-year head coach Megan Smith Lyon.
