June 13, 2024 | Men's Lacrosse, Academics
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The North Carolina men's lacrosse tandem of Alex Breschi and Collin Krieg were named to the 2024 United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Scholar All-America list, the organization announced Thursday afternoon.
In order to be eligible for the award, student-athletes must be a senior in academic standing and have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or higher. The member must also have received All-America or All-Conference honors for their achievements on the field in their career.
A defensive midfielder from Glen Arm, Md., Breschi appeared in 13 games this spring for the Tar Heels. A communications major, Breschi recorded a ground ball in four contests this season, as well as scoring a goal in the victory over Hofstra. Prior to the season, Breschi was voted a team captain for the second-straight year.
Krieg, a goalkeeper from Stony Brook, N.Y., started all 14 contests between the pipes for Carolina this past spring. An exercise and sport science major in the classroom, Krieg allowed nine-or-fewer goals seven times this season, including allowing single-digit goals in four-straight victories for the Tar Heels in March. This season, Krieg became the fourth goalkeeper in program history to make 600-or-more career saves, and became the program's all-time leader in goalkeeper career minutes played. Joining Breschi, Krieg was voted a team captain prior to the 2024 campaign.
