Baseball Summer League Update: July 8

Several Tar Heels are refining their skills by participating in summer developmental leagues along the East Coast, competing in the Appalachian League, Cape Cod League (CCBL), Coastal Plain League and Old North State League.
The trio of Jason DeCaro, Matthew Matthijs and Luke Stevenson recently completed a stint on USA Baseball's Summer Tour, facing select teams from the Appalachian League and Coastal Plain League before concluding the tour against the U.S. Collegiate National Team.
RHP Jason DeCaro | USA Baseball Summer Tour
DeCaro started the tour's opening game against the Coastal Plain League Select Team and pitched 3.0 innings with three strikeouts and two runs allowed. It was his only appearance of the five-game tour.
RHP Matthew Matthijs | USA Baseball Summer Tour
Matthijs made two appearances on the tour, striking out four in 2.0 innings pitched without issuing a walk. He struck out two in the tour's opening game on July 29 against the Coastal Plain Select Team in one inning pitched. He repeated the performance against the Appalachian League West Select Team on July 2.
C Luke Stevenson | USA Baseball Summer Tour
Stevenson played three of five games during the USA Baseball Summer Tour, going 2-for-6 with a run scored and RBI.
RHP Hugh Collins | Clayton Covers | Old North State League
Collins has pitched in five games this summer and has a 3-0 record with a 1.27 ERA. He struck out 26 and walked just six in 21.1 innings. He had nine strikeouts in 6.0 innings against the Reidsville Luckies on June 22.
RHP Boston Flannery | Brewster Whitecaps | Cape Cod League
Flannery has made two appearances for Brewster, pitching 3.1 innings.
INF Gavin Gallaher | Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox | Cape Cod League
Gallaher is slashing .261/.291/.522 through his first eight games in the CCBL with a home run, three doubles and five RBIs.
RHP Ryan Hench | Burlington Sock Puppets | Appalachian League
Hench has pitched in five games and has struck out 24 in 20.2 innings while holding opposing hitters to a .250 batting average.
OF Reece Holbrook | Cotuit Lettleers | Cape Cod League
Holbrook had played in two games since arriving in Cotuit.
RHP Olin Johnson | Harwich Mariners | Cape Cod League
Johnson was a late addition to the Harwich Mariners this summer. He has appeared in two games, including one start, with two strikeouts in 4.2 innings pitched.
RHP Cameron Padgett | Bourne Braves | Cape Cod League
Padgett has appeared in just one game for the Bourne Braves since arriving to the CCBL. He struck out four in 3.0 innings and didn't allow a run in his lone outing.
LHP Kyle Percival | Brewster Whitecaps | Cape Cod League
Percival has struck out four in 4.0 innings pitched during his first two appearances with Brewster.
RHP Mason Yokum | Burlington Sock Puppets | Appalachian League
Yokum has made eight relief appearances for Burlington, pitching 12.0 innings. He has a 2.125 strikeout-to-walk ratio with 17 strikeouts against eight walks while holding opposing hitters to a .222 batting average.
