Strong Second Half Lifts No. 17 Men’s Soccer Over FIU

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Martin Vician scored two goals in eight seconds, followed by Bertil Hansen's first collegiate goal, as the North Carolina men's soccer program (2-0-1) defeated FIU (0-3-0) 3-1, Thursday evening at Dorrance Field.
How It Happened
• In the 18th minute, forward Luke Hille's attempt from inside the box was halted.
• FIU broke open the scoring in the 24th, as Michael Appiah broke past the Carolina defenders, taking a 1-0 lead.
• Carolina produced shots on goal in the 28th, 36th and 40th minutes, by Tate Johnson, Martin Vician, and Bertil Hansen, respectfully.
• To begin the second half, Carolina recorded four shots on goal in the opening 15 minutes, with three courtesy of Daniel Lugo and one by Juan Caffaro.
• In the 76th minute off a Carolina corner attempt, Vician tied the match at one-all, sending his header to the top of the goal.
• Just eight second later, Caffaro dished to Vician for the second-straight play, hitting the back of the net and giving the Tar Heels the lead.
• Hansen sealed the match three minutes later, with the assist credited to Ahmad Al-Qaq.

• Carolina leads the all-time series between the two programs, 4-3-0.
• With the win, the Tar Heels are 33-7-3 in the Carolina Nike Classic.
• Thursday was Vician's seventh career brace.
