Team Effort Pushes Volleyball Past Kansas State, 3-1

MANHATTAN, Kan. – The Carolina volleyball team (6-1) capped off a 2-0 weekend with a four-set victory (26-28, 25-13, 25-23, 25-22) over Kansas State on Sunday afternoon in the Morgan Family Arena. With the victory, the Tar Heels earned the title of The Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas Classic Tournament champions.
Mabrey Shaffmaster was named the Tournament MVP, while Maddy May and Safi Hampton were All-Tournament team selections.
After dropping the first set, Carolina rallied back to overpower the Wildcats in the next three. The Tar Heels outhit Kansas State .241-.109 in the match, including holding the Wildcats to a -.057 clip in the second set.
Three Tar Heels recorded double-doubles in the win: Shaffmaster, Hampton and Zoe Behrendt, while Jackie Taylor and Emani' Foster combined for 9.5 of the Tar Heels' 14 blocks.
May, who led the match with 17 digs, finished the weekend averaging a team-best 4.86 digs per set.

- Shaffmaster, who leads the team with 16 aces on the season, has tallied at least one ace in all seven of the Tar Heels' matches this season
- Shaffmaster has had double-digit kills in five matches this season and in four of those five, she has hit above .333
- Safi Hampton's double-double – 14 kills and 16 digs – is her first of the season and third in her career. She was just one dig shy of matching her career-best (17)
- Zoe Behrendt leads the team with a pair of double-doubles on the season, including her double-double against Kansas State (21 assists, 11 digs). She now has four in her career
- Jackie Taylor (10 block assists) and Emani' Foster (nine block assists) each set new career-best in blocks. Taylor, who also had six kills, also hit a career-best .500
