Women’s Soccer Returns Home For Ranked Matchup Against Virginia

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – One of just two teams in the Atlantic Coast Conference without a league loss this season, the fourth-ranked North Carolina women's soccer team returns to Chapel Hill for a big ranked matchup against No. 19 Virginia on Friday, Sept. 27. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. ET at Dorrance Field.

The game will air on ACCNX with Matt Krause and former UNC women's soccer standout Brianna Pinto, who currently plays for NC Courage in the NWSL, on call. Tickets are available for purchase here.

The Tar Heels enter the match with a 10-1 record on the year, including an unblemished 3-0 mark in ACC play to sit atop league standings. The Cavaliers arrive in Chapel Hill boasting an 8-2 ledger and are 1-2 in conference action.

Carolina was picked to finish fourth in the ACC Preseason Coaches Poll. Virginia was slotted at sixth.

This will be the 51st meeting between North Carolina and Virginia with UNC leading the all-time series at 40-5-5.
The Tar Heels are 17-2-1 all-time against the Cavaliers in Chapel Hill. UNC has out-scored UVA 137-31, including 62-15 at home.
This will be Carolina's second ranked contest this season. UNC defeated then-No. 16 Georgia, 4-3, on Aug. 22 at home.
Trinity Armstrong was named the ACC Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 24. She became the first rookie to win the defensive weekly award this year.
The Tar Heels have only allowed one goal in the last eight matches. UNC also has seven shutouts on the year, including four straight.
Carolina has kept all opponents to five shots on goal or fewer (2.7 per game) and has held all opponents to 15 shots or fewer (6.6 per game).
Kate Faasse leads the team with seven goals and 15 points. The junior's four game-winning goals rank first in the ACC and is tied for second in the nation.
Carolina checked in at No. 2 in the latest NCAA RPI, two spots higher from the initial RPI ranking last week.
The Tar Heels are ranked No. 4 in this week's United Soccer Coaches poll, up from No. 8 last week. The program has been ranked for 519 consecutive weeks.
Junior Maddie Dahlien returns to Chapel Hill after earning bronze with the U.S. Youth National Team at the FIFA U20 World Cup in Colombia. She had two goals, one assist and forced the game-winning own goal in the bronze-medal match.

Following the retirement of Anson Dorrance – the Tar Heels' first and only women's soccer head coach to date – on Aug. 11, associate head coach Damon Nahas is serving as interim head coach while UNC Director of Athletics Bubba Cunningham conducts a national search.
