VB Heads South For South Carolina Tournament

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – For the first time this season, the Carolina volleyball team (3-0) is hitting the road for a pair matches hosted by South Carolina.
The Tar Heels will open play in Columbia on Saturday with a 3 p.m. neutral-site match against Temple, which will not be broadcasted. Carolina will then face the host Gamecocks on Sunday at 2 p.m., which will be streamed on SECN+ in the Carolina Volleyball Center.

Opening Weekend Notes:
- The Tar Heels won all three of their matches in straight sets, going 3-0 over Cleveland State, College of Charleston and Western Carolina
- Redshirt sophomore middle blocker Chelsea Thorpe and freshman middle blocker Jackie Taylor led the team with 10 blocks apiece, averaging 1.11 blockers per set
- Senior outside hitter Mabrey Shaffmaster matched her career-best of five service aces against Western Carolina – the fourth five-ace match of her career. She had seven aces across the Tar Heels' three matches, averaging a team-best .78 aces per set
- Graduate outside hitter Emani' Foster hit a career-best .667 with 19 kills against College of Charleston
- Foster, Shaffmaster and junior libero Maddy May were named to the All-Tournament team
- As a team, the Tar Heels had 22 aces and held their opponents to just two
- May and South Carolina junior Brooke Doherty were club teammates at Triangle Volleyball Club in Morrisville, N.C.
