VB Heads South For South Carolina Tournament

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – For the first time this season, the Carolina volleyball team (3-0) is hitting the road for a pair matches hosted by South Carolina.

The Tar Heels will open play in Columbia on Saturday with a 3 p.m. neutral-site match against Temple, which will not be broadcasted. Carolina will then face the host Gamecocks on Sunday at 2 p.m., which will be streamed on SECN+ in the Carolina Volleyball Center.

The Tar Heels won all three of their matches in straight sets, going 3-0 over Cleveland State, College of Charleston and Western Carolina
Redshirt sophomore middle blocker Chelsea Thorpe and freshman middle blocker Jackie Taylor led the team with 10 blocks apiece, averaging 1.11 blockers per set
Senior outside hitter Mabrey Shaffmaster matched her career-best of five service aces against Western Carolina – the fourth five-ace match of her career. She had seven aces across the Tar Heels' three matches, averaging a team-best .78 aces per set
Graduate outside hitter Emani' Foster hit a career-best .667 with 19 kills against College of Charleston
Foster, Shaffmaster and junior libero Maddy May were named to the All-Tournament team
As a team, the Tar Heels had 22 aces and held their opponents to just two
