Field Hockey Moves To 4-0 With Shutout Of No. 15 Princeton

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The North Carolina field hockey team earned its second shutout of the weekend on Sunday morning, beating No. 15 Princeton 2-0 at Trager Stadium in ACC-Ivy League Conference Crossover action to improve to 4-0 on the season. Senior Jasmina Smolenaars and sophomore Charly Bruder scored in the third quarter to break open a game that had been locked at 0-0 until then.
Smolenaars' goal came just 1:02 after halftime, after she put back a penalty corner rebound when the first UNC shot was saved.
Bruder's goal was in the 38th minute, on a deflected cross and assisted by sophomore Sanne Hak.
After a back-and-forth first period in which Carolina got off three shots and Princeton two, UNC led 21-5 in shots over the next 45 minutes. The Tar Heels didn't give up a penalty corner while drawing 11.
Senior goalkeeper Abigail Taylor made two saves in the win.
Carolina opened the event with a 5-0 win over Penn on Friday.
The coming weekend is open for UNC. Next up is the first home game of the season and the team's Atlantic Coast Conference opener, Sept. 20 against Syracuse.
