Aidan Banfield Earns FWAA Freshman All-America Honors
January 14, 2025 | Football
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — The Football Writers Association of American announced its 2024 Freshman All-America Team on Tuesday and North Carolina offensive lineman Aidan Banfield was among the honorees.
Banfield becomes the seventh Tar Heel to earn the FWAA All-America accolades since its inception in 2001 and he is the first Carolina offensive lineman to receive the honor.
A native of Buford, Georgia, Banfield played in and started 11 games in 2024, helping to lead the Tar Heel offensive line that blocked for All-American Omarion Hampton, who was the nation's second-leading rusher, averaging 189.5 yards per game.
Banfield was one of only 21 true freshmen in the nation – and just four offensive linemen – to receive the honors on Tuesday.
