Heels Hold First Scrimmage Of The Spring

Chapel Hill, NC--Â The Blue squad scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth and final inning to take a 2-1 win over Navy in a six-inning scrimmage at Boshamer Stadium on Friday afternoon in the first scrimmage of the Spring. Â The game was played under partly cloudy skies with the temperature in the low forties, the warmest day of the week.
Offensive Highlights: Luke Stevenson went 3-3 with a pair of doubles to go with his one run scored. Rom Kellis was the only other player with multiple hits as he went 2-2. Sam Angelo doubled to be the only other player with an extra base hit.
Hunter Stokely and Carter French had one RBI apiece for Blue, while Macaddin Dye drove in Navy's only run.
Pitching Highlights: Folger Boaz, Jason DeCaro, Matthew Matthijs, Ryan Lynch, Ryan Hench and Boston Flannery saw action on the mound. Boaz gave up no runs on two hits while fanning three in his 2.0 innings. DeCaro tossed 3.0 three scoreless, giving up three hits while striking out three and walking none.
Lynch threw 2.0 scoreless innings on just one hit while striking out four. Matthijs struck out three of the seven hitters he faced.
The Tar Heels will scrimmage again on Saturday.
