Volleyball Sweeps UVA In Final Road Contest Of Regular Season

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA, - Carolina volleyball took down the University of Virginia Cavaliers (25-17, 28-26, 25-19), sweeping Virginia in the team's final road match of the season.
Carolina led in all key statistical categories. Lauren Schutter excelled defensively, leading the match with seven blocks and posting the best hitting percentage on the day at .571. Â
Laynie Smith opened the first set by going a perfect six-for-six on attacks, recording six kills without an error. The opening 20 points were tightly contested, with the Tar Heels holding a narrow 11-10 lead. Chelsea Thorpe then triggered a decisive 12-4 run with a powerful kill. Although UVA attempted a comeback, Carolina closed out the set 25-17.
The Cavaliers opened the second set with a 7-2 lead, but the Tar Heels quickly responded. Trailing 12-15, they went on a 9-3 run to take a 21-18 advantage. UVA then mounted their own comeback, yet the Tar Heels held firm and secured the set with a 3-0 run for a 28-26 victory.
