Men's Tennis Hosting ITA East Sectional This Weekend
November 5, 2025 | Men's Tennis
Members of the University of North Carolina men's tennis team will be in action this weekend at the ITA East Sectional Championship in the team's lone home appearance in Chapel Hill this fall.
The event will run from Thursday through Sunday at the Chewning Tennis Center. The UNC women are also hosting an ITA sectional, making it a jam-packed weekend of exciting tennis in Chapel Hill. The universities of Michigan (Central), Georgia (South) and California (West) also will be hosting men's sectional action
The ITA Sectional Championships are the last chance for some of the top players in the country to qualify for the 2025 NCAA Individual Championships.
Each 2025 ITA Sectional Championship will have a draw size of 32 players in singles and 16 doubles teams. From this, six singles players from each section (24 nationally) will qualify for the NCAA Singles Championship (semifinalists and two quarterfinal playoff winners from each sectional). Meanwhile, three doubles teams from each section (12 total) will qualify for the NCAA Doubles Championship through the Sectional Championships (champion, finalist, third place).
Tar Heels Ian Mayew, Roan Jones, Constantinos Djakouris and Niels Ratiu will compete in singles beginning on Thursday (times listed below). Carolina doubles teams of Anthony Wright and Nick Mangiapane, Jones and Logan Zapp and Mayew and Kase Schinnerer also will be in action on Thursday.
