Haugh Gem Not Enough As Baseball Loses To Louisville
March 16, 2025 | Baseball
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Aidan Haugh only gave up one hit to add another quality start to his tally, but North Carolina's bats never got going and they drop the Sunday slate 5-0.
The Tar Heels (16-4, 2-4 ACC) lose the series to the Cardinals after only being able to pick up the win in the second game of Friday's doubleheader. UNC has yet to win a weekend on the road in Louisville in their three attempts.
The Sunday starter for Carolina, Haugh put together yet another gem on the mound to be the lone bright spot on the day for the boys in blue. He threw 6.1 innings, allowing only one hit with one earned run and six strikeouts. The hit came in the bottom of the first when the Cardinals took the lead, but after that he went five straight frames with no hits allowed.
The senior has been outstanding in his five starts thus far for the Tar Heels. A team-high 32 strikeouts have been key in helping him avoid giving up more than two runs in any of his outings. Across his last 11.1 frames, opposing hitters have only registered two hits and four walks.
Tyson Bass brought the only pop for the offense with a double that one-hopped off the left field wall to give North Carolina two in scoring position with only one out. The Heels couldn't bring the tying run across however, and Louisville added four more insurance runs to seal the game.
Shortstop Alex Madera only registered one at-bat on the day because he walked in his first three plate appearances. It is highest single-game walk total of the year and brings his on-base percentage up to .413.
