Baseball Loses Sunday Rubber Match To Stanford
March 9, 2025 | Baseball
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – North Carolina baseball lost its series-deciding matchup with the traveling Stanford Cardinal 7-0 on Sunday afternoon in Boshamer Stadium.
The Tar Heels (14-2, 1-2 ACC) drop their first home conference series since April 2023. The Carolina bats just never got into a rhythm, only piecing together multiple hits in the same inning in the ninth.
Kane Kepley raked a ball into the right field corner to pick up what would be his fourth triple of the season. The Carolina season record for three-baggers is eight (Brian Goodwin, 2010) and he is one away from being the first to get to five since Brandon Riley and Logan Warmoth in 2017.
Starter Aidan Haugh put together another solid outing, giving up one earned run while adding five strikeouts to his team-high 26. This season he is only allowing opponents to hit .188 against him and had only one hit recorded against him today.
Veteran shortstop Alex Madera had two singles on the day to bump his batting average up to .344, second best on the team. Cather Luke Stevenson put up a hit and a walk on the day, wrapping up a series where he went 6-for-10 with five RBIs, three runs scored, and four walks.
Carolina will have a chance to bounce back strong with a trip to UNC-Wilmington on the schedule for Tuesday at 6 p.m. ET.
