Student-Athlete Advisory Committee Hosting School Supplies Drive For Hurricane Helene Relief
April 11, 2025 | General, Academics
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Working together to provide support for those affected by Hurricane Helene this past fall in western North Carolina, the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee has come together to collect school supplies for those communities throughout the state in need.
"After Hurricane Helene hit Western North Carolina this past fall, I had the opportunity to go to the city of Marion with my teammates and one of our supporters who lives in the area, to do work on a flooded home. When we came back, I had many student-athletes come to me asking how they could get involved in hurricane relief efforts, and I knew we had to find a way for us to give back to the state that has done so much for us," said Riley Quartermain, president of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and member of the women's golf team .
"After learning about schools damaged by the hurricane, some of which our own student athletes attended, we thought what better way to give back to the state than do a school supplies drive for schools in western North Carolina. Even though most of us are not from North Carolina, is it our home, and we felt it is our responsibility to do what we can to help those affected by the hurricane."
Collecting supplies for WD Williams Elementary School in Swannanoa, SAAC is working to provide students with the tools that they need to bounce back and succeed in the classroom.
By accessing the attached link, those interested in supporting can donate supplies through Amazon that will be sent directly to Swannanoa.Â
