April 15, 2025 | Men's Lacrosse
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The North Carolina men's lacrosse duo of Mason Szewczyk and Michael Gianforcaro swept the Atlantic Coast Conference's weekly honors, the conference announced Tuesday afternoon.
The Tar Heel tandem helped Carolina defeat No. 12 Duke on Saturday, the first Tar Heel victory in Durham since 2016.
Szewczyk collects Offensive Player of the Week recognition for the first time in his Carolina career, after posting two goals and an assist in the win. The two goals and three points tied the Naperville, Ill. native's career bests, as the freshman midfielder has scored multiple goals in both ACC games this spring.
Szewczyk is the first Carolina freshman to win ACC Offensive Player of the Week since Justin Anderson in 2017.
Gianforcaro collects ACC weekly honors for the second time this spring, following his 12 save effort against the Blue Devils this weekend. Gianforcaro's fourth double-digit save showing of the year was highlighted by seven second-half stops. The graduate goalkeeper is an anchor for the Carolina defensive unit that has allowed single-digit goals in eight of the Tar Heels' nine victories this spring.
Up next, Carolina hosts the two-time defending national champions Notre Dame on Saturday at Dorrance Field. Opening faceoff between the Tar Heels and Fighting Irish is set for Noon, witn the top-10 matchup airing on ESPNU.
