April 17, 2025 | Men's Lacrosse
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - North Carolina lacrosse attackmen Owen Duffy and Dominic Pietramala have been named nominees for the 2025 Tewaaraton Award, the Tewaaraton Foundation announced Thursday afternoon.
The preeminent honor in college lacrosse, the Tewaaraton Award annually honors the top male and female lacrosse player in the United States. The selection committees are made up of premier collegiate coaches and are appointed annually by the Tewaaraton Foundation.
This spring, the Tar Heel tandem has combined for 66 goals and 21 assists, an average of 7.9 points per game between the duo.
Just two goals shy of tying his career best, Duffy has 30 goals and 19 assists this spring for Carolina. The East Quogue, N.Y. product has scored three-or-more goals in seven games in 2025, highlighted by a career-high six scores in the victory over Jacksonville.
Last year in his rookie campaign, Duffy was named the ACC's Freshman of the Year, leading Carolina with 32 goals and 54 points, finishing second with 22 assists.
Pietramala's 36 goals this spring is a career best for the redshirt-sophomore, adding two assists on the campaign. Pietramala has scored in all 11 games this spring for Carolina, including back-to-back games in February with five-or-more goals against Stony Brook and No. 4 Johns Hopkins. Entering this weekend, Pietramala carries a 25-game point streak and a 14-game goal streak.
In 2024, Duffy and Pietramala each scored 32 goals apiece, tying Robin Beran's single season goals record for a freshman.
The duo look to join Jed Prossner (2004), Marcus Holman (2013) and Chris Gray (2021, 2022) as finalists for the prestigious award.
Up next, the Tar Heels host the two-time defending national champions Notre Dame on Saturday. Opening faceoff is set for Noon, and tickets can be purchased here.
