CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Second-ranked North Carolina women's lacrosse used timely offense and a stingy second-half defense to better No. 1 Boston College on Saturday at Dorrance Field.

BC got off to a hot start, scoring the first four goals of the game, but UNC chipped away, taking its first lead of the game at 11-10 with 6:24 left. The Tar Heels added another goal and ran out the clock to win 12-11.

UNC is in line to be the No. 1 team in the country for the first time since week five of the 2023 season.

The Tar Heels improved to 12-0 (7-0 ACC) while the Eagles fell to 13-1 (6-1 ACC).

How It Happened

Boston College jumped out to a 4-0 lead, Carolina's largest deficit of the season, forcing a UNC timeout.
Marissa White got the Heels on the board with a free-position goal to make it 4-1.
Caroline Godine scored on an open net after a forced turnover to make it 4-2.
The first quarter ended with the score 5-2. BC led in shots on goal 7-6, but made four saves to two.
UNC opened the second quarter with a three-goal run to level things at five. Goals from Olivia Vergano, Chloe Humphrey and Kiley Mottice did the work.
Eliza Osburn opened her account late in the second to tie things at six.
Carolina outshot BC 18-11 in the first half and had the advantage in shots on goal, 13-10.
BC had the edge in draw controls, 10-5.
Kate Levy opens the second-half scoring and ties it at seven.
C. Humphrey's second on the day brought things level at eight.
Addison Pattillo finished a gorgeous assist from Ashley Humphrey and the Heels and Eagles continued to alternate goals.
C. Godine's second tied things up at 10 and E. Osburn's second gave the Heels their first lead of the game.
C. Godine got the hat trick to give the Heels a 12-10 lead with four minutes left.
BC pulled one back with 3:33 left to make it 12-11.
GK Lexi Zenk entered in the second half and made four saves and held BC to four goals to help the Tar Heels secure the 12-11 win.

The Heels lead the series over BC, 22-8, and 12-2 in Chapel Hill.
With two assists on the day, A. Humphrey is currently tied for sixth on UNC's all-time assists list (86) and fourth on the single-season list (48).
