CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - University of North Carolina women's soccer (3-2, 0-0 ACC) claimed a 4-0 win over UNC Greensboro (0-4, 0-0 SoCon) on Thursday evening. The Tar Heels' victory marks the first time since 2019 that they've recorded three-straight home shutouts to start the season.
Carolina got started early, racing out to a 1-0 lead in the first 20 minutes. Bella Devey opened the scoring for the Tar Heels in the 19th minute with her first career goal. Devey carried the ball past midfield, danced through a few Spartan defenders, and slotted the ball away in the bottom left corner of the goal.
Kate Faasse doubled Carolina's lead in the 35th minute on a tap in. It was the first goal of the season for the reigning Hermann Trophy and Honda Award winner. The Tar Heels carried the 2-0 advantage into halftime.
Carolina came out firing in the second half. In the 52nd minute, Linda Ullmark picked up the ball in the middle of the 18-yard box, dribbled around a few defenders, and tucked away the third Tar Heel goal of the day to make it 3-0.
A minute and a half later, Olivia Thomas took a shot that was saved right onto the feet of Faasse. The forward took the loose ball, spun around a defender, and scored from just a few yards out to secure her first brace of the season.
