Game 3 Of ECU Series Ends In A Tie Due To Weather

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – North Carolina baseball's series finale with in-state rivals ECU was concluded prematurely after a decision by both coaching staffs and administration due to ongoing weather and player safety concerns. The game will not be rescheduled.

It is the first tie for the Tar Heels (6-1-1) since April 17, 2005 when a 10th inning game against Miami was called early due to a set curfew. That draw was the first for the program since 1989.

The scoring went back and forth in the middle frames before the rain delay. ECU scored first in the third and the Heels answered through an Owen Hull sac fly in the fourth. Then ECU put two across in the top of the fifth, but Carolina answered with a pair of RBI singles from Gavin Gallaher and Erik Paulsen to square it up again.

Before the sixth inning could get going, the game entered a rain delay that would last about 2.5 hours before the contest was eventually called.
