Heels Handle Aggies, 9-1
February 24, 2026 | Baseball
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Carolina baseball cruised to a 9-1 win over the visiting NC A&T Aggies on a chilly Tuesday afternoon in Boshamer Stadium.
Â
The No. 8 Tar Heels (7-1-1) got stellar pitching from Cameron Padgett and Caden Glauber supported by a steady flow of offense to secure the victory. Carolina came one run short of ending the game in the eighth and adding their fourth run-rule of the young season before giving up the shutout to the second to last batter of the game in the ninth.
Â
Padgett got the start and set a strong tone, punching out three and not allowing a run in his 3.0 innings. The true freshman Glauber followed with by far his best collegiate work to pick up the win, 5.0 IP only putting one runner on base through a HBP and striking out five.
Â
UNC opened the scoring in the second when Owen Hull laced a double down the left field line that brought Macon Winslow all the way around from first on some good baserunning. It was big day for Hull, who finished 3-5 with four RBIs, easily his best outing in Carolina blue since transferring in from George Mason.
Â
With the Aggies threatening in the top of the fourth, Cooper Nicholson showed off his glove with a web gem that head coach Scott Forbes described as "the play of the game." In Glauber's first at-bat of the afternoon, NC A&T's Bruce Whyce lined a shot down the third base line that Nicholson dove to stop before getting up to make the double play. A pivotal effort that helped Carolina out of a jam.
Â
The runs would pour in over the back half of the contest, as the Heels put up three in the fifth and eighth to take firm control. Hull and Erik Paulsen led the way with a pair of RBI singles each.
Â
The Heels are immediately back to work, hosting VCU at the Bosh on Wednesday, Feb. 25. First pitch is set for 4 p.m. ET with coverage once again coming on ACCNX.
