SARATOGA, CALIF. – Carolina softball picked up a series clinching win on Sunday afternoon with a loud 13-5 win over Cal.

Carolina got the scoring going early, with Emily LeGette driving in Sanaa Thompson to go up 1-0. The Golden Bears responded with a two run home run in the bottom of the first to jump in front.

The Tar Heels punched right back with a four run second to take a 5-1 lead behind a Thompson single to score one, an error to score one, and a Shelby Barbee double to plate two.

Cal would get two back in the third, but in the fourth UNC responded with two runs on a hit by pitch, and an error. In the fifth LeGette sent a sac-fly to deep left field to bring in another run. She now has seven sac-flies on the season which ties the program record that Sanaa Thompson and Carlie Myrtle set last season. Shelby Barbee is just one away from joining the club.

Barbee notched an RBI single to tack on another run to close out the fifth with a 6-4 lead.

In the seventh, UNC was facing the end of its 23 game home run streak but LeGette would send a ball to the roof of the batting cages beyond right field to make it 24 consecutive games with a home run. If that wasn't enough just four pitches later, Barbee joined the party with a home run of her own to make it 11-4. A passed ball made it 12-4 then a Sydney Horton single made it 13-4. Cal was able to get one back in the bottom half but Nikki Harris would close it out to seal the win.

Harris was outstanding out of the bullpen, twirling 4.1 innings only allowing one run. She is now 2-0 on the season with a 1.50 ERA.
