Associated Press Names Wilson Second-Team All-America

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Associated Press has voted University of North Carolina Caleb Wilson a second-team All-America, ensuring the freshman forward will join 54 other honored Tar Heels in the rafters of the Dean E. Smith Center.
Wilson is currently the first Carolina men's basketball player ever to lead the team in points, rebounds and assists per game. The Atlanta native established UNC freshman records for highest scoring average (19.8 points per game), most consecutive games to begin a career with 24 games in double figures and 20-point games (17).
He made first-team All-ACC and the ACC All-Freshman Team, joining Antawn Jamison and Tyler Hansbrough as the only Carolina freshmen to earn first-team All-ACC honors. He was previously named second-team All-America by the Field of 68 and CBS Sports and third team by the Sporting News.
Wilson and Hansbrough are the only Tar Heels to qualify for honored jersey status as a freshman.
Wilson won National Player-of-the-Week honors three times and was a three-time ACC Freshman of the Week. He won KenPom's Game MVP in 12 of his 24 games.
He led Carolina with 23 points in the Tar Heels' 71-68 win over Duke, hit a key basket in the final minute in UNC's win at Virginia and totaled 24 points, seven rebounds, four assists and four steals in the win over Kansas.
Wilson averaged 9.4 rebounds, the second-most by a Tar Heel freshman, and had 11 double-doubles. He became the first Tar Heel freshman to score 20 or more points in six straight games.
He broke a bone in his left hand at Miami on February 10, which caused him to miss the next six games. On March 5, he broke his right thumb on a dunk in practice, an injury that ended his season after 24 games.
