Thomann Named To Tewaaraton Award Watch List
March 5, 2026 | Men's Lacrosse
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - North Carolina men's lacrosse defenseman Peter Thomann has been named to the 2026 Tewaaraton Award Watch List, the Tewaaraton Foundation announced Thursday afternoon.
Thomann becomes the fourth Tar Heel named to the award's Watch List, joining teammates Owen Duffy, Dominic Pietramala and Brady Wambach.
The preeminent honor in college lacrosse, the Tewaaraton Award annually honors the top male and female lacrosse player in the United States. The selection committees are made up of premier collegiate coaches and are appointed annually by the Tewaaraton Foundation.
Through the first month of the campaign, Thomann is second on Carolina with 18 ground balls, first among Tar Heel defensive players. The Merrick, N.Y. product has posted multiple ground balls in all six games this year, including back-to-back four ground ball efforts last weekend. Thomann has also added a team-best six caused turnovers this spring for the Tar Heels, including two on Sunday at No. 10 Princeton.
The redshirt-sophomore returned to the field in 2026 after suffering a season-ending injury in the preseason a year ago. Thomann appeared and started in all 14 contests during his true freshman campaign in 2024. The Tar Heel defenseman finished the season with a team-best 21 caused turnovers, while collecting 28 ground balls two years ago.
Up next, Carolina hosts Brown on Saturday at Dorrance Field. Opening faceoff between the Tar Heels and Bears is set for 1:30 PM, with free admission for all fans.
