DeCaro & Glauber Earn Dick Hoswer Trophy Semifinalist Recognition
May 14, 2026 | Baseball
DALLAS – Carolina baseball pitchers Jason DeCaro and Caden Glauber have been selected as semifinalists for the 2026 Dick Howser Trophy, given annually to the top player in college baseball as voted on by the National College Baseball Writers Association.
Â
The veteran DeCaro has been excellent as the No. 2 Tar Heels' ace since Opening Day. His 1.91 ERA is battling Glauber for the best in the Atlantic Coast Conference. His 9-2 record gives him the sixth most wins in the country as he has racked up 61 strikeouts and two shutouts.
Â
Glauber has been nothing short of sensational in his true freshman season, just ahead of DeCaro for the conference's best ERA at 1.84 with a 7-0 record and a team-high 69 strikeouts. He also paces the ACC in opposing batting average (.180) and runs allowed (15). His ERA is the best of any freshman in the country, 1.59 points better than the next best power five rookie.
Â
Carolina is one of 12 teams to get multiple players on the list. The dynamic duo are part of pitching staff that currently owns the sixth best ERA in the country and is tops in the ACC.
Â
At this moment, there are seven arms in the country who own a sub-2.00 ERA. DeCaro and Glauber are both among them and make the Heels the only team in the country with two.
Â
The Dick Howser Trophy Committee has named 48 semifinalists for this year's award, which is in its 39th year. Finalists will be announced on Thursday, June 4.
Â
The trophy is given in memory of the former Florida State University All-America shortstop and major league player and manager Dick Howser who died of brain cancer in 1987. The trophy is regarded as baseball's most prestigious award. Criteria for consideration of the trophy include performance on the field, leadership, moral character and courage – all qualities that were exemplified by Dick Howser's life.
