Stephen had an excellent fall and I would anticipate him getting some time for us this year.
He's done a nice job of working hard and filling out and becoming stronger in the weight room and being a physical dodger.
One of his biggest strengths is off ball play. He gets open inside and can finish.
The added depth at the attack position has elevated his game to improve and to hopefully make an impact this spring.
General: Two-time returning letterman in the attack unit.
2011 (Sophomore): Played in two games, seeing action against Presbyterian and Lehigh...scored his first career goal against the Blue Hose...also had a ground ball in that game.
2010 (Freshman): Saw action in two games in the attack unit against Lehigh and Dartmouth.
Prep: Graduated from Chapel Hill High School in 2008 where he was coached in lacrosse by Glen Estacio...did a post-graduate year at Avon Old Farms School in Connecticut...a high school All-America at Chapel Hill High...named first-team All-State...led the Tigers to state championships in 2007 and 2008...both of those teams went undefeated...was the offensive MVP of the 2007 state championship game...in club lacrosse, was a member of the Triad Black travel team for four years...competed at the Blue Chip camp his junior year...also played in the STX Shootout. Community Service & Leadership: Has volunteered at the Ronald McDonald House, with the kids ice cream cart at UNC Children's Hospital and with the Adopt A Family program.
Personal: Stephen Grist Burns is the son of Gary and Jami Burns...has one sister, Casey, who played field hockey at Carolina, winning a pair of NCAA championships...his father, Gary, was a member of the 1981 and 1982 NCAA championships lacrosse teams at UNC and was the captain of the 1982 team...was born October 13, 1990 in Chapel Hill, N.C. ...communication studies major.

1. My favorite thing about wearing Carolina Blue is always looking fresh.
2. I love competing for this incredible coaching staff because we play to win.
3. My most underrated strength about my lacrosse game is my BTB.
4. My best friend on my high school lacrosse team was John Haus.
5. Every high school recruit should dream of becoming a Tar Heel because no place can compare to the weather and southern hospitality.

1. An ideal Saturday afternoon in the summer is spent at the beach.
2. My teammate with the best taste in music is DJ Scaggz because of Players on Wednesday nights.
3. My favorite professional sports team is Real Madrid.
4. The best movie I've ever seen on a lacrosse bus trip is Step Brothers.
5. The foreign country I would love to visit the most is the South of France because I have never been.
