Finished the 2000 season as Carolina’s fourth-leading tackler, and picked up where he left off with a tremendous senior season • Ranked second on the team with 125 total tackles in 2001 • Provided solid leadership to a young linebacking corps.

2001 • Senior Season
Started all 13 games, including the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl and ranked second on the team with 125 tackles (81 solo, 44 assists) • Also had six tackles for losses of 14 yards • Had a nose for the ball all season, intercepting two passes, deflecting eight passes, forcing a team-high three fumbles and recovering a team-high two fumbles • Was credited with six quarterback pressures • Had six tackles, including an eight-yard sack in UNC’s 16-10 win over Auburn • Also had two pass breakups • Had five double-digit tackle games, including team highs of 23 against Wake Forest, 17 at Georgia Tech, 12 at NC State and 10 against Virginia • Added two tackles for losses and an interception against Wake • Played stellar at Clemson, making seven stops, including two for losses, and had an interception • Had nine tackles against Florida State to go with one forced fumble, one recovered fumble and one pass breakup • Had eight total tackles, including two for losses, in the season-opener at Oklahoma.

2000 • Junior Season
Stepped into a starting role after Merceda Perry went down with a broken ankle against Wake Forest • Started the final nine games of the season and was one of Carolina’s top tacklers • Was fourth on the team with 76 tackles, 35 solo hits and 41 assists • Tallied six tackles for loss for 31 yards and had two sacks for 19 yards • Registered double-digit tackles in four games • Had a season-high 15 tackles, including 10 solo stops, in his first career start at Florida State • Had 10 tackles vs. Georgia Tech, 10 vs. Maryland and 10 at Duke • Had five tackles and sacked Virginia quarterback Dan Ellis for a 10-yard loss at Charlottesville • The following week at Pittsburgh, he registered his second sack of the season by dragging down David Priestly for a 9-yard loss • Had a three-game streak with at least one tackle for loss • Had two TFLs vs. Maryland.

1999 • Sophomore Season
Played in all 11 games and made five starts at outside linebacker • Moved into the starting lineup after injuries shelved Brandon Spoon and Merceda Perry • Finished with 42 tackles, including three for losses • Had two quarterback sacks and caused one fumble • Made a season-high eight tackles against Houston • That total included a 9-yard sack against the Cougars • Also had a 17-yard quarterback sack against Duke • Had six tackles against Georgia Tech and Furman • Played 478 snaps • Played at least 23 snaps in all 11 games with a high of 65 against Georgia Tech • Averaged 26 snaps in the first four weeks and 52 snaps over the last seven games.

1998 • Freshman Season
Played in all 12 games, including the Las Vegas Bowl • Saw action as a reserve at outside linebacker • Played 211 snaps with a season high of 26 against Duke • Made four tackles, recovered one fumble and broke up a pass • Had two tackles at Stanford • Recovered a fumble on Wake Forest’s game-opening kickoff return • Recovery led to a UNC field goal • Had a pass breakup at Duke • Was red-shirted in 1997.

White Oak High School
Played quarterback, safety and defensive end • Passed for 2,240 yards and 23 touchdowns over his last two years • Played for Coach Jack Baile • Completed 80 of 145 passes for 875 yards and eight touchdowns in 1996 • Was the school’s MVP and team captain in football and basketball in each of his last two years • Member of the 1997 North Carolina Academic All-State Basketball Team • Earned all-conference and all-area honors in football and basketball both as a junior and senior • Led basketball team to the No. 1 ranking in the state as a senior • Also threw the shot put • Recipient of the North Carolina Scholar-Athlete Award • Member of the Honor Roll for four years.
