A good athlete who is becoming a better offensive lineman with each practice. Continues to work hard at getting bigger and stronger. Has been undersized much of his career, but has been able to earn playing time with great spirit and hard work. Will be a leader on offense this year.
At Carolina
Carolina’s most consistent offensive lineman. Started all 12 games, including the Las Vegas Bowl. Started the first four games at right tackle and the last eight games at right guard. Saw action on 759 snaps, an average of 63.3 plays per game. Played a season-high 86 snaps in the win over NC State in which Carolina amassed 432 yards of total offense. He played more downs than any other player on the Tar Heel offense. Began 1997 on offense, but shifted back to defensive tackle after Marcus Dow was injured in the preseason. Played 99 snaps in the regular season and 15 more in the Gator Bowl. Had three tackles and one quarterback pressure. Did not play in 1996 and was red-shirted in 1995.
Niceville High School
An all-area and all-district selection in the offensive line as a senior. Won third-team all-state honors. Played on three straight district championship teams. Chosen for the Florida-Georgia All-Star Game. Coached by Frank Sorrells. National Honor Society member.
Personal
Born Charles Bryan Jones on Oct. 18, 1976. Majoring in management and society. Favorite pro teams are the Minnesota Vikings and Atlanta Braves. Favorite athletes are John Randall and Michael Jordan. The people who have influenced him the most are his parents. Other favorite sport is golf. His mother is English. He spent most of his childhood in England because his dad was in the Air Force. Post-college ambition is to run a Fortune 500 company. Says the word that best describes him is "unique."
