Mark had a great year in 2011 as our No. 1 long stick middie.
His strengths are his play between the lines, being able to run breaks and his ground ball work is phenomenal.
Still getting better at one-on-one defense and playing schemes.
General: Three-time letter winner in the long stick defensive midfield corps...2012 tri-captain...chosen in the fourth round of the 2012 MLL Draft...was the 32nd pick overall, taken by Boston Cannons...2012 Face-Off Yearbook preseason honorable mention All-America selection.
2012 (Senior): Named to fall 2011 Dean's List.
2011 (Junior): Won the team's Needham Unsung Hero Award...named to 2011 All-ACC Academic Team...was Carolina's top long stick defensive midfielder...played in all 16 games for the Tar Heels...scored on 55.6 percent of his shots...scored five goals on just nine shots...scored in three straight games against Virginia, when he scored twice, Presbyterian and Lehigh...also scored in regular season win over Maryland...had 30 ground balls and 15 caused turnovers...was second on the team in caused turnovers which a season high of two each against Maryland and Johns Hopkins...had season highs for ground balls with four each against Duke and Virginia.
2010 (Sophomore): Had a brilliant sophomore year, producing on both the offensive and defensive ends of the field...played in all 16 games...had four goals and an assist...scooped up 29 ground balls, had six caused turnovers and won 32 of 61 face-offs...had a goal and an assist in the win over Jacksonville and one goal each against Dartmouth, Ohio State and Delaware...scored the game-winner with 4:52 to play in the 14-13 NCAA Tournament first round game against the Fighting Blue Hens...did a stellar job at the face-off X...career high for face-off wins in a game is seven...won 7 of 9 against Ohio State and 7 of 12 versus Delaware near season's end...also went 6 of 11 against Robert Morris, 4 of 6 against Lehigh and 4 of 8 against Dartmouth...also scooped up a career-high seven ground balls against Ohio State and had five versus Delaware and three each against Robert Morris and Maryland...cause two turnovers against Dartmouth...won honors on 2010 All-ACC Academic Men's Lacrosse Team...also tapped for the ACC Academic Honor Roll for second year in a row.
2009 (Freshman): Had a terrific freshman year as one of the team's top long-stick midfielders...played in 17 games...had 34 ground balls and 11 caused turnovers...scored a pair of goals...scored his goals in close wins over Colgate (11-9) and Ohio State (12-11)...had a career-high four ground balls against Navy, Lehigh, Virginia and Ohio State and three each against Denver and UMBC...had a season-high four caused turnovers at Maryland...also caused three turnovers against Lehigh...named to Dean's List in spring semester 2009...tapped for 2008-09 ACC Academic Honor Roll...named to 2009 All-ACC Academic Team for men's lacrosse.
Community Service & Leadership: Part of Share Your Christmas community service program...takes part in reading in local schools for the 2nd and 7 Foundation...volunteers for Habitat for Humanity.
Prep: Was ranked as the No. 14 recruit in the country in the senior class of 2008 by Inside Lacrosse Magazine...graduated from The Severn School in Severna Park, Md. on June 7, 2008...was a four-year letterman in lacrosse from 2005-08, playing defense, midfield and long-stick midfield...coached there by Brian Wood...lettered on the football team for four years from 2004-07 as a tight end, linebacker, punter, kicker and wide out...helped lead the 2006 Severn team to the MIAA lacrosse semifinals...a first-team all-MIAA defenseman...an Under Armour All-America selection in 2008 when he was a member of the South Team...first-team All-MIAA selection...was named Anne Arundel County Lacrosse Player of the Year in 2008...finalist for C. 1. The best thing about being a Tar Heel lacrosse player is playing with the guys on the team.
2. My favorite thing about competing for Coach Breschi is his competitive edge.
3. Since last year the aspect of my training I've worked on the most is lifting weights.
4. My best friends on another college lacrosse team are Taylor Burns, Alex Playner and Matt Verklin.
5. My greatest strength as a lacrosse player is between the lines.

1. Away from the lacrosse field and academic pursuits I like to spend time bronzing at the pool.
2. The best movie I've seen recently is Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2.
3. If I could compete in another sport at UNC it would be basketball.
4. The music act I'd most like to see in person is Avicii.
5. The personal interest I have that might surprise my teammates is World War II history.

1. After a game at Fetzer Field, I'd like to see a tailgate spread that included AK skis, cheese steaks and hot dogs.
2. My favorite beverage is root beer.
3. My favorite food made by a relative is grandma's chicken made by my mom.
4. My favorite place to eat in Chapel Hill is The Front Porch.
5. My favorite guilty pleasure food wise is deep fried Reese's.
