DARCY McFARLANE
Dorrance on Darcy: She is an extraordinary leader. Her impact is going to be leading the team in every respect in practice, in games, on the field, off the field. She’s an overachiever. She’s a gritty, tough, risk taking defensive midfielder. I’m hoping she comes back well enough so we can give her some significant time.
Senior Year (2016): 2016 team co-captain with Hanna Gardner • Veteran Leader in the Carolina Leadership Academy • projected as the starter at the left spot in the holding midfield in 4-2-3-1 formation
Junior Year (2015): Key player as a holding midfield for UNC • suffered an ACL tear versus Florida State on October 11 and missed remainder of season • inducted into Order of the Golden Fleece during 2015-16 school year • 2015-16 ACC Academic Honor Roll selection • named to Dean’s List in both semesters of 2015-16 school year • played in 13 games last season, starting six times and playing 590 minutes • recorded the first point of her career when she assisted on Summer Green’s game-winning goal against UTSA • a week later she had the secondary assist on Sarah Ashley Firstenberg’s game-winning goal versus USC in the 68th minute.
Sophomore Year (2014): Greatly improved since her freshman year • one of UNC’s toughest players • missed the Syracuse & South Dakota State games due to injury • moved into the starting lineup for the Tar Heels in the Duke Nike Classic • started nine games overall at the holding center midfield position, including seven straight starts at midseason • played 93 minutes in the double overtime win over Penn State and 82 minutes in the victory over Arkansas • played the sixth most minutes on the team (1,138) • participated as a Rising Star in the Carolina Leadership Academy • was named to Dean’s List in both semesters of the school year • earned membership on the ACC Academic Honor Roll.

McLean Scholarship through UNC’s Kenan Flagler Business School to study in Santiago, Chile in summer 2015 • member of the Student Advisory Committee to the Chancellor for the 2015-16 school year (a committee of 10 students in student government) • on behalf of the soccer team she serves on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and Carolina Outreach (organizing student-athlete community service).
