1999 • Sophomore Season
Played in all 11 games and started seven times at cornerback. Played 453 snaps. Saw limited playing time in several games due to lower back spasms. Made 15 tackles, broke up five passes and had one tackle for a loss. Broke up a pair of passes against Virginia and one against Florida State, Wake Forest and Duke. Recorded a season-high four tackles against the Seminoles and had three hits against Wake Forest and NC State.
1998 • Freshman Season
Played in each of the first seven games and the Las Vegas Bowl as a nickel back and reserve cornerback. Missed the last four games of the regular season with a sprained back. Made nine solo tackles, assisted on one other tackle and broke up five passes. Played on 188 snaps in the regular season and four in the bowl game. Played a season-high 53 snaps at Wake Forest. Had six solo tackles, assisted on one stop and broke up two passes in the 38-31 win over the Demon Deacons. Broke up three passes in the win over Pittsburgh. Was red-shirted in 1997.
Thomasville High School
Four-year starter at free safety and three-time Central Carolina Conference all-star. Played for Coach Allen Brown. Returned 10 kicks for touchdowns in his career. Made a game-saving interception in the 2-A state championship game as a junior. Had 37 tackles and eight interceptions as a senior. Also an outstanding baseball shortstop.
Personal
Born Anthony Jerrod Anderson on Nov. 15, 1978. Majoring in African-American Studies. Favorite pro teams are the Houston Rockets and Detroit Lions. Favorite athletes are Scottie Pippen and Barry Sanders. The people who have influenced him the most are his mother, Norine Anderson, and his uncle, Edmund Anderson. Other favorite sport is baseball. Says the best thing about his position is playing bump-and-run. If he could bring anything from his hometown to Chapel Hill it would be his sister, LaPorcha. Post-college ambition is to teach. Says the word that best describes him is "genuine." Hobby is bowling.
