One of the top playmakers in the Atlantic Coast Conference... Is the Tar Heels' top deep threat and is an outstanding punt return and kick return man... Can take a short pass and outrun defenders for a touchdown.
2000 -- Sophomore Season
After missing the entire 1999 season due to a major knee injury, Allen had a spectacular year in 2000 as the Tar Heels' top receiver and leading punt returner... Started every game and had a team-high 40 receptions for 634 yards, an average of 15.9 yards per catch... Led the team with four touchdown catches, including two in the season finale at Duke... Was fifth in the ACC with 57.6 yards receiving per game and seventh in receptions per game (3.64)... Returned 28 punts for a school-record 421 yards (15.0 average) and two touchdowns... Was second in the ACC and 14th in the country in punt returns... Tied the single-season ACC record with two punt returns for touchdowns... Gave the Tar Heels a 28-14 lead at Wake Forest with a thrilling 78-yard punt return in which he slipped through tackle-after-tackle and faked several Demon Deacons who tried to bring him down... That play was voted the best punt return of the season by "College Football Plays of the Year"... Also had a 63-yard punt return for a touchdown at Duke... Scored three times at Duke, including two receiving touchdowns and a punt return TD... Tied for the team lead with six touchdowns (four receiving, two punt returns)... Twice he went over the 100-yard receiving mark in a game, posting a career-high 111 yards on just two catches at Wake Forest and 101 yards on six receptions at Duke... Caught at least one pass in every game and had a career-high seven receptions for 91 yards in UNC’s 20-17 win at Pittsburgh... Made nine catches of at least 24 yards, including three catches over 50 yards... Had a 60-yard touchdown catch and a 51-yard reception at Wake Forest, a 54-yard catch vs. Georgia Tech and a 49-yard catch vs. Marshall... Had six catches for 54 yards vs. Clemson and five catches for 59 yards at Virginia... Led the team with 1,133 all-purpose yards (103.0 average)... Returned five kickoffs for 85 yards (17.0 average), including a long of 37 yards.

Did not play due to injury... Injured his left knee while returning a kickoff against NC State on Nov. 28, 1998... Was able to return to practice in November 1999.
1998 -- Freshman Season
Played in nine regular-season games... Saw action on 156 snaps at wide receiver and on special teams... Played a season-high 42 snaps against Georgia Tech... Caught three passes for 107 yards, an average of 35.7 yards per catch... Returned eight punts for 58 yards (7.2 average) and four kickoffs for 71 yards (17.8 average)... Had a 25-yard punt return at Duke... Had a 21-yard pass reception at Stanford, a 70-yard reception at Wake Forest and a 16-yard catch at Florida State... The 70-yard catch at Wake Forest late in the first half set up a UNC field goal... The 16-yard catch at FSU came on a 4th-and-3 play from the Seminole 21-yard line, gave UNC a first down at the 5-yard line and set up a Tar Heel touchdown... Suffered a left knee injury while returning a kickoff against NC State in the final regular-season game... Tore the anterior cruciate, medial and lateral collateral ligaments and underwent corrective surgery in late November.
