Darrell Moody, who spent the better part of two decades as an NFL scout, returned for his third stint at UNC on Jan. 10, 2019 and serves as the Senior Advisor to the Head Coach. During his coaching career, Moody served as the offensive coordinator at Tulane, North Carolina and Clemson.
Moody spent 11 seasons on the UNC coaching staff, including eight years with Brown from 1988-95. A respected offensive mind, Moody primarily coached running backs in his time at Carolina.
In total, Moody spent 31 years as a collegiate coach with stops at N.C. State (1973-74, 77-79, 97), Southern Miss (1975), LSU (1980-83), Appalachian State (1984), Tulane (1985-87), North Carolina (1988-95, 1998-2000) and Clemson (1996). Moody also coached at Asheboro H.S. (1971-72) and served as the offensive coordinator at Eastern Randolph H.S. in Ramseur in 2001.
After three decades on the sidelines, Moody became a scout for the San Diego Chargers in 2002. He worked for 17 years as a national and regional scout for the San Diego Chargers (2002-09), Buffalo Bills (2010-14) and San Francisco 49ers (2015-18).
A native of Asheboro, N.C., Moody played quarterback and shortstop on the baseball team at N.C. State from 1968-70, where he earned a degree in economics and a master’s in vocational education.
