Has held on placements, extra point tries and field goal attempts for the last two seasons. Also is the top backup at punter and on kickoffs. Was the team’s starting punter in 1996. Punted 54 times for 2,087 yards, an average of 38.6 yards per kick. Had a season-long of 52 yards against Georgia Tech and Florida State. Had at least one 50-yard punt in five of the 11 regular-season games. Dropped 10 punts inside the 20-yard line. Also handled kickoffs and held for placements. Red-shirted in football in 1995.
Baseball At Carolina
Led the nation in earned run average (1.71) in 1999 and was named second-team All-ACC. Was 7-6 with seven saves, pitching 73.2 innings in 36 appearances. Struck out 72 and walked just 22. Set a UNC record with 44 appearances in 1998, leading UNC to the NCAA Regional final. Was named to the NCAA All-Regional Team. Has a 14-9 record with 14 saves and a 2.59 ERA over the last two years. Has one season of baseball eligibility remaining.
South Dade High School
Class 5A all-state punter. Averaged 42 yards a punt. Made six of seven field goals and 27 of 29 PATs as a senior. Coached by Don Drinkhahn. Lettered three years in baseball. 15

Born Derrick James DePriest on Nov. 21, 1976. Majoring in physical education. His father, Craig, played football at UConn.
