1999 -- Sophomore Season
Began the year at tailback, but finished as the starting quarterback in Carolina’s two season-ending wins over NC State and Duke. Played in all 11 games a total of 307 snaps. Played tailback (122 snaps) in the first seven games and quarterback (185) in the last four contests. Started at tailback at Maryland and went the distance at quarterback in the final two games. Completed 5 of 14 passes for 85 yards and one touchdown in the 10-6 win over NC State. Opened the scoring against the Pack with a 12-yard touchdown pass to fullback Deon Dyer. Key play in that scoring drive was a 45-yard pass on third down to Kory Bailey. Completed an 8-yard strike to Bailey for a first down on a 3rd-and-7 play in the third quarter. That drive culminated in a field goal. Completed 10 of 21 passes for 189 yards and a touchdown in the 38-0 triumph over Duke. Blew open the game with a 40-yard touchdown pass to Bailey late in the first half. Also had completions of 29 yards to Greg Harris and 25 yards to Dauntae’ Finger against the Blue Devils. Made his quarterback debut against Furman and was 4 for 10 for 60 yards. Had a 45-yard completion to Bailey. Completed both pass attempts for 18 yards against Wake Forest. For the season, he completed 21 of 47 pass attempts (.447) for 352 yards. Tossed two touchdowns and was not intercepted. At tailback, he had 35 carries for 125 yards (3.6 per carry). Had four carries for eight yards against Florida State, 15 carries for 76 yards at Georgia Tech, 13 attempts for six yards against Houston and nine rushes for 35 yards at Maryland. Had a quarterback rating of 121.65 for the year. Posted a rating of 110.26 against NC State and 138.93 against Duke in his two starts. Finished the season second on the team in total offense yards with 535.
1998
Was ruled academically ineligible to play just before the start of the season. Injured his right knee in the preseason. Suffered a tibia stress fracture and knee sprain in the first preseason practice. Had surgery at mid-season.
1997 -- Freshman Season
Played in seven regular-season games and rushed 15 times for 50 yards. Scored one touchdown, a 10-yard run against Duke. Had five carries for 24 yards, including a 19-yard dash in the Gator Bowl against Virginia Tech. Returned six kickoffs for 79 yards, a 13.2 average.
Gwynn Park High School
Parade All-America. First-team all-state. Washington Post All-Metro Team. Played quarterback and rushed 142 times for 1,397 yards and 18 touchdowns as a senior. Completed 40 of 90 passes for 544 yards and six touchdowns. Led Gwynn Park to an 8-3 record and the Maryland 3-A playoffs. Career school records include most touchdowns (45), most total yards (4,227), most rushing yards (2,589). Named to the all-state team at defensive back. Member of the Honor Society.
