Was one-third of one of the country’s top receiving units heading into last season, but an injury in September ended his season after just one contest. Missed all of spring practice but is on schedule to compete this fall. Should be one of the top returning offensive players in the ACC. Makes lots of yards after he catches the ball, can catch the ball in a crowd and handles bump-and-run coverage well. His injury was a crushing blow to the Tar Heels last year. An inexperienced group of receivers will greatly benefit from his presence. Should he return to the level he played at in 1997, he will be a solid pro prospect.
1998 • Junior Season
Had an outstanding preseason practice, but missed the last 11 games due to injury. Had four catches for 37 yards against Miami in the season opener. Tore his right anterior cruciate ligament catching a pass in practice the week of the Stanford game.
1997• Sophomore Season
Played in all 11 regular-season games and the Gator Bowl. Caught at least one pass in 10 of 12 games. Third on the team with 32 catches for 418 yards and two touchdowns. Averaged 13.1 yards per catch. Had a career-high 105 receiving yards in Carolina’s 40-14 victory at Maryland. Caught touchdown passes at Maryland and versus Duke. His first collegiate touchdown catch was a 19-yard toss from Oscar Davenport that gave Carolina a 24-7 lead against the Terrapins. Was on the receiving end of a record-tying touchdown pass from Chris Keldorf against Duke. Keldorf tied the school record for career touchdown passes when he threaded a pass between two defenders to Peace in the end zone. Had a career-high six catches for 93 yards at Georgia Tech, including a 39-yard catch in the first half.
1996• Freshman Season
Received most of his playing time in multiple-receiver sets. Had one catch for 20 yards against Wake Forest and two receptions for 39 yards against Maryland. Was red-shirted as a quarterback in 1995.
Northern Durham High School
Started at quarterback in the Shrine Bowl. Parade All-America. Led Northern Durham to three straight unbeaten regular seasons and conference titles. Set school records for completions, attempts, passing yards, total yards and touchdown passes after becoming the starting QB four games into his sophomore season. Completed 83 of 164 passes as a senior for 1,257 yards and 15 touchdowns. Started on teams with a 40-2 record. Finished his career with 4,041 yards passing and 56 TD tosses. Threw only 12 interceptions in 438 career attempts. Was injured going into 1993 state title game against West Charlotte, but came into a scoreless game late in the first half. Went on to pass for 149 yards and four TDs in a 39-6 win. Coached by Gary Merrill his senior year. Played for Ken Browning his first three years. Lettered four times in football and basketball.
