One-third of what may be the best starting linebacker unit in the nation along with Brandon Spoon and Merceda Perry. An outstanding athlete who played his finest football at the end of last season. Has worked hard in the last two offseasons to add weight that will better allow him to take on tight ends and offensive tackles. Has always been blessed with above average athletic skills. Has great speed and agility for the position. Learning to play more physically and with more aggression.
1999 -- Junior Season
Named Carolina’s top linebacker. Was third on the team in tackles with 79. Started every game at outside linebacker for the second consecutive season. Averaged 7.2 tackles per contest. Had nine or more tackles in five games and was in double figures three times. Had a season-high 12 tackles against Florida State and NC State. Had 11 hits against Georgia Tech. Played his two finest games of the season against NC State and Florida State. Against the Seminoles, he recorded nine solo tackles, including two tackles behind the line of scrimmage. In the 10-6 win over NC State, he had 10 primary hits, including three tackles for losses for 13 yards. He finished the season with seven tackles for losses, the second-highest figure on the team. He intercepted a pass and returned it 19 yards to set up a late field goal in the win over Duke. Played 714 snaps.
1998 -- Sophomore Season
Started all 11 games. Finished fourth on the team in tackles with 89. That included 11 tackles for losses for 37 yards and 3.5 sacks for 27 yards. Had a season-high 16 tackles against Miami. Also had 12 vs. Stanford and Clemson and 10 vs. Maryland. Played his best game of the year against Maryland when he made 10 tackles, including a sack and another tackle for a loss, had two pass breakups and recovered a fumble. Had sacks against Clemson, Maryland and Duke. Intercepted a pass against Wake Forest. Saw action on 801 snaps, including 43 in the Las Vegas Bowl. Made eight tackles, including six primary hits, and had a tackle for a loss against San Diego State.
1997 -- Freshman Season
Was impressive in limited action against Virginia Tech in the Gator Bowl. Made two tackles and sacked Virginia Tech quarterback Nick Sorensen for a 6-yard loss in the fourth quarter. Played 206 snaps during the regular season, including 15 or more snaps in seven games. Saw his most extensive action against TCU, Virginia and Maryland. Made 15 tackles, including one for a loss.
Westminster School
First-team all-state selection at outside linebacker by the Atlanta Journal Constitution. Also a first-team all-city and All-Northside Atlanta pick. Played for Coach Gerry Romberg. Received the school’s award for the Best All-Around Senior Athlete. Led his team to the state semifinals. Made 106 tackles, including 88 solo stops. Had 10 sacks, recovered four fumbles, broke up two passes and had one interception. Averaged 10 points and 10 rebounds per game in baaketball. Was fourth in the state in the long jump as a junior. Won the H.J. Stegeman Trophy at the Class 2-A state meet as a senior, given to the High Point Champion. Won the 100 and 200 meters, was third in the long jump and was a member of the first place 4x100 relay at the 1997 state meet. Honor student.
Personal
Born Sedrick Jamaine Hodge on Sept. 13, 1978. Majoring in communications. Favorite pro team is the Atlanta Falcons. Greatest athletic achievement was winning the 100, 200 and 4x100 at the state high school track meet. Would like to become a more aggressive player. Other favorite sport is basketball. Post-college ambition is work as a sports broadcaster. Says the word that best describes him is "dedication." Hobbies are video games.
